1st generation 4runner limited budget build up
Ok for some of you (like me) with limited budgets I am doing a build up on the 87 4runner.
I will be putting in a cam, New exhaust valves (stock size), timing kit with steel guide (possably using the secondary steel guide from a dual timing chain kit to make it stronger) and I just ordered a headman header to install from summit. cost was a major factor for the entire thing. the cam was $90 the gasket set with the timing kit including steel guide were $107 shipped. the cost of the header with handaling fee was $127 but I will still need to get the down pipe welded. I am still waiting for the valves so I will ad the price for them when I recieve them. so far, $327 And I have been told that with the mods I should see about 15% increase in power and about 20% in the torque. I may have it dynoed but since this is a budget build the $100 or more for the 2 dyno sessions could be used in a better way. (anyone have a Gtech I could borrow?) I also have a perminate marker and was going to write TYPE R on the valve faces, do you think that would help? David |

the TYPE R logo alone is worth 10 hp. Then, go get some Chevy Orange rattle can from the nearest auto parts store, paint whatever removable part you can, and add 5 hp per. So if you hose the charcoal canister, the intake plenums, the brake booster, p/s pump, any pulleys you can touch, and you'll see the 500 pony maark rather quickly
