1st Gen Rear Window Will not roll up

Hello,
I have a 1988 4runner. I just put the hard top back on for the winter and now my rear window will not roll up either by using the button in the center console or using the key on the rear gate. The top is bolted on, I have reconnected the wire harness and I have reconnected winsheild washer hose. I have taken the top off before and have not had this problem. The "BACK DOOR" light is turned off (this is good since the window will not enguage if the light is on). Any thoughts?

Thanks.
Steve

Sounds like a bad connection- take a tester and verify that the window is getting juice when someone in the cab flicks the switch (BTW,are you the Moab 1st gen Steve?).

All of the bolts for the hardtop are in place? There is one (I forget which one) that has the little switch under it disabling the window when the top is removed. This bolt must be in place to raise the window.

Thanks. The wiring harness appears to be in good shape, but I will test the connection. I am not too sure about the "Window Lock" button in the console. I don't know how that works or if it goes bad if the window will not engauge (I have hit the button several times to test it). I probably should check the fuses as well.

(BTW, I am Moab 1st gen Steve)

Oh, and make sure the window lock switch is connected, the window wont go up or down without that switch (and make sure its in unlock). Do you hear the window relay click on when you turn the key in on? The relay is in the side panel behind the drivers seat.

The bolt next to the roll bar on the drivers side has to be in. Third from the back, over the wheel, you can feel in there and find this switch.
The rear wiper switch has to be off. I didn't have a wiper arm at all and it took me a long time to figure this out since I couldn't tell it was moving.
The electrical connection between the truck and top must be plugged in.

Check those first. No reason to believe anything happened to break while the top was off.

If you determine it is the relay, Roger (4Crawlr) has a good write-up on how to fix it I think.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It turned out the "Third bolt from the back" was not tightened all the way. The window is working fine.

Beers are on me.

Later,
