1st Gen. 4Runner Transmission
I might be able to get a 1st gen. 4runner for cheap. It is an 87 with an automatic tranmission that has something wrong with it. Is there an economical way to go from an automatic to a manual trans. I dont want to spend a lot of money on it. Can something like that be bought from a junk yard? How much does a new auto trans. cost?
Basically I am trying to decide if this is a worth while investment or if I should wait for one that has everything working. It supposedly has a rebuilt engine in it.
Thanks,
Chris

I have bought several trannys for 250-300, auto and manual.
To swap to a manual, you would also need new pedals, and cut holes in the floor to mount those. Also, clutch master and slave cylinders, and lines to go between them. Also some interior mods would be needed.

for the most part it's a bolt-in, just have to cut the shifter holes in the floor and jump the neutral safety switch wires in the transmission.
also, don't forget you'll need to buy a transfer case!
