A 98 will either have a 3.4 5vzfe 6 or a 2.7 3rzfe 4. There are no head gasket issues with either motor.

Thanks I ment 3.4 not 3.0 and after doing some searches since I posted I realize there are no hg issues with the 3.4. What fuel mileage do yall get with the 3.4 5 spd? thanks

People claim to get all sorts of numbers for gas mileage here, but what is is? 4Runner, Extended Cab truck? If its a 4Runner in my experience you should get anywhere from 16 mpg at the least to 20 at the most.

As far as mpg.

My 4runner is 1990 3.0 5speed 4wd. Avg. 16-18 (calculated everytime i fill up.)

Moms 4runner 1999 3.4 auto 2wd. Avg 18-21 (also this is only when i have filled up a few times, so this is not calculated much, this is probably the average of calculating twice.)

Both is around town

This is calculated by filling the tank, driving some distance, filling up again. Not completely accurate, but close enough for comparison

Also, i coast a lot down hills so i would actually get less if i left it in gear.

Also, i drive quickly by accelerating fast, my mom's accelerates slowely, that is another factor
