1995 tacoma "check engine light"

Aloha!!
Don't know if this is a common thread that gets posted, but I figured I would ask the pros.
I have a 1995 Tacoma V6 4WD w/ 90k miles and the check engine light came on. It actually came on at around 88K, had a friend check it with his OB2 code reader and it came up O2 sensor(bank 1 sensor 1). Anyway just replaced it and cleared the code. Then a couple of days later the damn light came on again???? Have not had the chance to hunt my friend down to get a code reading yet. Any suggetstions?? Could it be the other O2 sensor? Its a little humbug to always check the codes, my understanding is that codes can only be read and cleared through the code reader???
Any feed back would be great!

I think you are going to need to hunt your friend down because you can't just assume that the code will be the same thing again. I think some of the auto stores (Autozone comes to mind) will pull codes for free as well if you bring the vehicle down to the store.

Welcome to YotaTech! First off, you can check the codes your self by bridging your diagnostics harness. It's like E1 and Te1... Don't quote me on that as I am saying this from memeory, but search for it in this group and you should find out how. Then you just turn the ignition "on" and count the blinking engine light. It will give you some number/s to work with. If it is the same problem there are a number of things it could be:
bad wireing harness to O2 sensor
running too rich and fouling sensor
bad cat fouling sensor
etc...
There are a lot of comments and fixes to this exact topic in this group so I would highly suggest searching in here.

Some 95.5 Tacomas have OBD 2 which can only be checked with a reader.

Thanks guys, guess I'll try and search some old threads on this topic.
As for checking the code, I'll have to make it a point to go see my friend. Also I tried that shorting of T1 and E1, but nothing happened. Someone told me that 95 tacomas have the old style OB2 or something, so you need to check/clear it with the reader.

Awesome forum with good infor, keep up the good commaradarie!!

Mahalo!!
