02 exhaust
I am looking at up grading my exhaust for my 02 runner. Obviously I want a better tone to come from the exhaust. What mufflers sound the best and what tip should I use? I wouldn't mind a horse power increase aswell. I would buy the TRD exhaust, but they want $1500. I would rather save some money on that if the trd only gives 3-4 horse power with that mod. Any suggestions and pics would be appreciated.
Thanks later

Well, you can get the TRD for $650 or so, but I still wouldn't recomend it. You can buy 4 complete custom systems for the price of one of theirs. So even if you if it rusts through 3 times (wich it wont) then you will save money. I love my dynomax. it was only $40 at summit. Then installation is about $60 if you keep the stock piping. If you want a few ponies it will probably come out to $160 total. Corey, and admin has an exhaust page setup... look around the site in the tech seciont and stuff. Its got sound files etc. Thtas just good for finding tone though. how loud they are you can't really tell, and depends from model to model.

Hold off for a short while before you make up your mind on an exhaust.
First let me say that the TRD exhaust is JUNK. I have the Borla made TRD exhaust and it sounds OK, but it constantly clanks and bangs under the truck. I have modified it three times to eliminate most of it, but the last thing is going to be a tad hard to fix. The right torque link mount on the axle jams right into the tail pipe on full compression and slams the tail pipe into the truck body causing a terrible BLAM. It is like you hit something on the road.
Anyway, I have a muffler coming and I plan to obtain a stock exhaust and replace the stock muffler with this one. A friend of mine got one of these mufflers at my recommendation and he really likes it. He is on the left coast so I have not heard it.
So, if this works out, we are talking about a $130 upgrade for a stainless muffler that is supposed to be the cat's meow and is said to make more power then the Borla TRD one. Here is a hint. It is the muffler that TRD wanted because it worked the best, but the Borla was cheaper so that is what they went with. Let me know if you all figure it out...
Stay tuned.

About the tip,
Nope, not dynomax... hehe, actually it was extra that the exhaust shop had laying around and he sold it to me for $10 installed Midas put it in, couldn't be more than $20 or so new... Good luck, but sounds like gadget is at it again! How could bolra be cheaper than $130?? or is it just the muffler?
