Smile Yota802's 88 pickup build

This is my first posting on here. This Saturday i am driving to nh. To pick up my first truck. Its an 88 Toyota 4x4 and i'm getting it for 800 bucks. It needs some love though. The floors have some holes in them nothing to bad. It also needs a head gasket. I haven't looked at the truck yet but the guy says it has a 22r(carb) but i think that they didn't have them in the 88s could someone clear that up for me? I have always loved Toyotas and i finally found one that was in my price range and has a good frame.

pass flour.
Frame
drivers side.

The rust isn't that bad for northern states. More updates saturday night with more pictures.

I plan on doing these things and more:
Lift
lockers front/rear
redo inside of the cab
maby a sas.
high flow cat with glass pack
I'm a high school kid so this will be kind of slow, but i am pretty good at wrenching i just lack the funds.

I have seen 88s with a carb. Think I even seen a 91 with a carb but it was 2WD. Truck isnt in to bad of a shape and great one for you to learn on. I would get it dependable and solid first then do your upgrades.

There is alot of good info on here to help you with your build. Good luck and looking forward to your build. Welcome to Yotatech.

In 1988 You could get a 22R, 22R-E, and a 3VZ. Last year of the 22R was 1988.

If you're going through all that work might as well do the whole front end of the motor. I got a whole kit, oil pump, water pump, timing cover, gears, chain, guides, and everything else

I watched Craigslist for a good 3 months looking for a SR5 cluster, finally found it for $20, turns out they had it on there for awhile and I never found it because it didn't have any of the keywords I was using.

Which one? Gates? Rathes?

I find parts all the time on CL.

NewPort isnt far at all. My 92 is down in Royalton thought....LOTS of good trails down there.

Gates. I paid 75 for seat belts for my 91 chevy. just 2. And i got some messed up electrical wireing. most places on the truck theres just wires hanging. and when i push the brakes the dash lights come on? i dont know if thats normal or not could some one clarify that for me? thanks. Wheres Rathes? I think theres a place in derby vt. Its right next to me. This summer we should wheel there.
