I know there was a chart somewhere that would tell you what you have from the factory by lookin in the door panel. I just can't seem to find it.
I'm thinking your going to have 4.10's. The easiest way to tell is to block the front wheels and lift 1 back wheel. Put some tape on the wheel and on the d-shaft. Spin the wheel 1 time and count how many times the d-shaft turns. 4.1=4.10's 4.5=4.56's almost 5 times=4.88's. easy smeashey.

The chart lumpy mentions is in there, one of the first 3 links.
4.10's and 31's are ok, as long as you run lighter all terrains, heavier mud terrains you will really feel em. I swapped to heavy mud 31's and 4.56's, and I can feel a big difference from my old all terrains. I might switch back to something lighter very soon.
The duratracs that a lot of the guys run here have an aggressive tread, but weigh in close to an all terrain. I am about 75% sure I am going with these, I still have some time to make up my mind.
Can't wait to see the paint job!! Are you painting the top to match as well? Or paint it black so it looks like a tonka truck?
And Lumpy, if he is open diff, gonna have to turn the tire 2 revolutions to get 4 plus turns of the driveshaft, if you leave one tire on the ground and one jacked up in the air.
Look into the zuk mod too. Between the zuk mod and BJ spacers, the roof of my rig is just over 6 feet high, and I could clear 33's no problem. (I kept it at 31's though) Between both, cost was $100 for BJ spacers, about $75 for the coil springs.

Ok, Ok, I was close on the tire thing. I think he would have figured it out though. I guess I can't know everything.

YO!
How the hell did I miss this??
Looking like you got yourself one of those "diamonds in a rough" kinda projects.
My son (at age 13 last year) bought his 88 4runner in Trexlertown....I assume that is not too far away from you...we towed it home (about 25 miles west of Wilkes-Barre) and the rest is history.
hope to see you at Rausch, man, along with the other guys from here.
with some money and alot of effort , you will turn that thing around nicely.
31's fit very well on mine without any lift.
if you ever need pics of anything, i've got 100's of them, of both the 4runner and my truck /engine.
good luck.

if your gonna do bj spacers you might as well get some 33x10.50s. that lift with 31's looked really goofy on my truck. unless your getting a heck of a deal i would deff look at the 33's man oh and bj spacers lift 1.5 inch in the front so if ya wanna get 2-3 inches your gonna have to crank your t-bars. i cranked mine when i put the bj spacers and i think i have around 3" os suspension lift in the front. either way it should look pretty sweet man

i dont think 33x10.50's would be to bad on stock gears. now 33x12.50 would prolly be a dog but people do it all time. and since we have ifs with torsion bars you can crank them to get lift. it will give you a harsher ride and put your cv's at a steeper angle but its a free way to get lift. you can search for the instructions on how to do so. lol

You will! I say in about 3 weeks or so.
haha yes as soon as i get the money, my cars steal it away from me I was looking around on some other people's build up threads and it gave me so many new ideas… time to start wrenchin!
Hmm i'll have to ask around and see who runs what on 4.10 gears with the 22RE. Also i'll definitely look up instructions on how to crank the torsion bars.
Again guys,
I appreciate all your help! I have never been on a car forum as helpful as this one!

That would be one very solid way to go. Price seems reasonable as well. Longer shocks are recommended. I believe that the Suzuki Samurai front struts will compress to the same length as Toy, but extend a few inches longer. It might be cheaper to go that route.
Build is looking good, man. I love the ones that start as other people's junk.
