Decided to go a different route today.

http://lincoln.craigslist.org/pts/4542282056.html

Clean inside and out, no rust, frame has been coated.
Already been stripped of its guts.
Converete to SAS and rear leaf already.
Brake master and proportioning valve plumbed in.
~50k on body and frame.
Came with Dana 60 and 14 bolt swap parts.

I think I did guuuuud.

I plan to stick a 3.0 back in the red one and sell it. Nice thing is I haven't done anything to it, just prepared parts that will bolt right into the white one!

Actually did some work on this tonight for the first time in quite a while. My motivation level has been low with all the hot weather and being swamped at work.

Tore the 63's apart tonight, removed the old bushings and overload leaf, leaving me with 5 leaves (3/4 ton springs). Gave them a fresh rattle can paint job, and they are ready to go in.

You get an engine back in the red one yet? Curious how long she lasted with the new rod bearings you slapped in there. I jsut got a $400 95 4runner with a 3.0 with rod knock, going to be slapping new neargins in this weekend, then corss my fingers and hope they fix the knock. Or just drive it with the knock till it blows.

Cheers!

It lasted about 5k with the new bearings. Not really sure what happene d to the motor, but it runs like it's on 4 cylinders, and smokes quite a bit.

thanks

Thanks for the update. If I can get 5k out of mine I would be pleased because it would last me 3or4 years of trails, fishing, and hunting runs. And by that time Will be moving again. Was really hoping to change them this weekend but not feeling motivated to lay on the ground In the rain and do rod bearings, hopefully my journals aren't destroyed

The white one is a 92. Have still been tinkering, busy at work and no spare money. I have a few hours worth of cutting and grinding to do for the shackle mounts and such on the frame. I'm hoping to have the axles under it so I can move it by the end of October.

I'm going to rebuild the 3.0 I bought, headgaskets anyways, and either sell it or drive it through winter, not sure yet.

Well hopefully you don't get stuck driving a Chevy this winter.

I got my Chevy stuck twice last year, in the alley behind my house. It has the ground clearance of a Hot Wheel.

Got it all situated in the garage yesterday on stands, and set the wheels at the width they will be 67.5". I think it looks pretty good. Going to be quite a bit higher, but I'm happy with the width.

Worked on the 14 bolt last week a little bit, cleaning off the old mounts and perched. What a bitch that was.

Turned the focus back to the red one for a while, hoping to get it back together and either on the road, or down the road to someone else.

Tore apart the original engine to find this:

Two broken rods, and all kinds of other stuff.

Also tore into the engine I bought to replace it with, and found this:

blown headgaskets, coolant left in cylinders, rust to the point of pitting the walls. Did not clean up with a hone. Now I have two boat anchors.

Looking at my options.

-Find another engine, $500+, an hope it's good.
-Rebuild this one, bore it over, oversized pistions, do everything right and spend $7-800
-KILL IT WITH FIRE.

I'm so done with vehicles right now.

....errr wait, I have to work on them every day at work.

Yea I'm pretty sure I've beaten my 22re harder than a 3.0 could handle,I've never been a fan of them.
