DSTRBD's 91 Runner Expedition build.

Hey guys, I'm a newb here, but I am no newb to yota's. I have been building them for the better part of 15 years, I have had a whole slew of them over the years. I currently run the buggy in my avatar for trailer queen status. We sold our super clean/super built 88 runner a few months back and are now starting the build on our 91 rust free cali runner for our expo rig, we want this to be capable off road as well as maintain freeway speeds so we can run to baja or rubicon and back.

Im a little ADHHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity hobby disorder) so Ill try to update when I can, I have always got several hobby projects going.

So here is a short list of things going into the 91:

3.4 swap
96 dash swap into the 91 including steering column, and all wiring from head lights to tail lights.
seats from the 96 (all interior I can make fit)
SAS
New bumpers sliders etc.
35's

Pics to come.

Ok so for what its worth i'll just ramble on some about the dash swap (finished it today)

A little background:
So I get this 4runner (the doner 96) from a friend that bought it new, her BF got boozed up one night and wrecked it in to a tall curb/fence etc. The IC total's it and never comes and claims it. I try for 2 years to buy it to no avail. 3 years after its wrecked I get a call from her now BF saying to come and get it finally, SO I go get it and have been sitting on it since (about a year).

I got a 91 runner a few weeks back, after trying to decide if it was worth building I have finally gave in and got started building it with the plans I mentioned in the first post. Making 1 from 2.

So the dash swap, i'm putting all of the interior into the 91 from the 96 that I can. So far the dash, the center console, seats and if I get ambitious enough I will try the door panels too...maybe. I had to make a couple mounts, cut the main dash support and reweld it in a different position as well as make a new firewall plate for the rack and pinion style steering shaft to go through the firewall. The 91 was an auto so I also had to swap the 96 clutch and pedals into the 91. But after a few days of taking my time, the dash is in and looks great. I will add some more pics as time goes on. I hope tomorrow to Plaz the IFS crap off and get started on the SAS... I need a break from all the wiring and crap I have been doing.

Pics tomorrow.

the firewall plate I had to make. Remember the 96 steering column is rack and pinion and the 91 is not, so the column went through the firewall in a different spot, so I made this plate to hold the column bushing in another spot.

So now i am waiting on the 2wd T100 oil pan and assorted components before the motor can go in, I got the springs and everything else for the front and rear this weekend so I can start cutting out the rear axle and welding in the marlin springs and associated hangers. Other than that i need to grab a IFS mount kit so I can remount the box, as well as prep and rebuild the front axle so it can go back in. lots of work but I am lucky enough I can work on it full time because I own my own business and I don't need to be there

More to come.

Been really busy on this, got the rear axle all cut out, cleaned up and hung under a set of marlin 4 inch springs Made the hangers front and rear. Got the IFS box mounted and finished the front axle gusseting. The front axle housing is hanging, i'm waiting on a 4:10 3rd before it will be in all back together. Did IFS hubs and FJ40 rotors to get the IFS width without spacers on the solid axle. Ordering the oil pan and related stuff tomorrow so the motor and tranny can go back in. Ill upload some pics after I clean up the garage, can't see much right now.

I like the dash swap. Is the interior width the same or will there be a gap at the doors. Also what did you do to connect to your ifs box to the steering shaft

Because of my ADD and the fact that my camera take huge files and its a PITA to resize every picture, I have been slacking on updates. Its finally finished! I'll see if I can upload all the pics to a photobucket or similar.
