Yeah if your gonna spend the money id go with this as well. I think painting the floor might need to be done every year

I have painted many floors at the school I work at with great success. Painting is all about the prep work. i am only looking at improving the appearance and not cost me more money then it is worth. At some point there will need to be some touch up and maintenance needed, but that is not something that will need to be done very often at all. Just remember, my garage is a working room not a dance hall. I am also contemplating "Baby Blue" as a color.

a school floor is different than a garage floor, keith. when was the last time you had rubber tires parked on your school floor or tools being dropped/heavy metal being dragged across it? not to mention that the carpet backing will tear it up if you do use your old carpet as a "throw rug". plus, keep in mind that even a good quality paint will absorb oils and dirt. seems like youre buying yourself more trouble and work down the line.

I vote epoxy it. not only will it be durable and oil resistant, it wont peel, wont scratch(to an extent) and you can really get creative with the colors.

FWIW, this is me speaking from 20 years of experience in CLEANING loading bays for bakeries and distribution centers. theres a reason they dont even paint the stripes in the floor anymore...they use epoxy and grind/seal the rest of the bay area with either a concrete sealant or wax(was is becoming more and more rare though due to the upkeep on it)

In my experience, no one walks into an attached garage and goes "damn, that's a sweet floor."

In other news, where's the pictures? What's the current status of said garage?
