88redyota's 1988 Pickup Build-Up Thread
well been working steadily for a few weeks on this and i figured id share. so here is what my build consist of
chassi and cab 1988 pickup 226 5sp with 38webber carb
what it looked like the day i brought it home
this is after fixing the po cranked tbars now sitting with some crank and 1.5in ball joint spacers and blocks and aal out back sitting on 33x12.50 tsls
wheeled it this way most of last year and fixed some of the po booty fab work
broken mount and old fab work from p/o
thease were my new motor mounts
got a deal on some boggers around xmass last year
and heres were things took a turn on the way to go wheeling on january 2 i caught a small problem.
it was a 06 dodge durango that was being piloted by a young woman lost control and took out the side. smashed the bed bent some hangers that are due to be cut off anyways. and sheared the rear Axel clean off at the drum.

took the bed off to make room for the spring swap and also doing some cleanup for the tube bed.
well got it mocked into place except for the shackle mounts will do that tomorrow. using early90s f150 springs and a swap kit from sky. once my shackle angles were i want it ill bun it all in. im guessing the shackle mounts are going to be moved forward around 6in.
the most weight i could come up with quickly old leaf springs two 50lb bags of sand and two 33in boggers.
just need the rear break lines it would clime on the next tires no problem just wont sit there without brakes.
well axle is all prepped for its new parts like a aussi locker lonfields drive flanges and new bearings.
mounted the 37s (maxxis creepy crawlers) today but its still on the ifs
took me three hrs or so and had the whole ifs laying on the ground. now just need to gut the rest of the components off but the sawsalll needs a rest its mighty hot. ill be breaking out the grinders and sawsall again tomorrow.
passenger side frame rail ground down and painted. not bothering with capping the back of the motor mounts cause im going to be redoing my motor mounts again later this year with a drive train lift.
swing shackle tube mocked in
home made leaf pack made from 2 sets of rear springs. after i got to this point i had to push on to get this result.
the solid axle is in and now i got to remove it all and do it all over again cause it turned into a monster tuck and im not to happy with the ride hight so time to do some more cutting to lower her down.
burned in now and painted moved front hanger back to 5/8in forward and frenched into frame probably around 3/16 now just got to reassemble the front axle and hang the shock towers in then i can trow the done tag on it.
shock towers all braced and burned in with a coat of paint. squeezed this in since the weather broke.
longfields are in can we say toyota bling
did some assembly to the knuckles but the passenger side need to come back apart mixed up the wipers. also have the front diff in with the Aussie locker in today too.
need to install calipers and break lines and set up the steering and install the drive flanges and ill be done tinkering with the front axle
its 6'4" to the top of roof will loose a few in once i get to trail pressure.
ok so today i moved and rotated the steering box so i wont have a interference between tie rod and drag link. and installed trail gear flat pitman arm too. all this stuff under there and im running out of room for up travel so my fear of being to high is going away. cause id be hacking at the frame for clearance if i were any lower. will probably plat the frame at a later date.
new winch is in and working
ultimate duals with twin sticks on the back case got them together and in the truck sported via jack stand.
had to see what it looked like with all the shifters in the cab too
duals all mounted and done just need to fill the cases with lube and fit a rear drive shaft.
and heres the clearance from the frame
new seats and lap belts installed
race teck suspension seats $220 pair shipped
r.j.s. racing equipment lap belts $34.99 each
summit racing sliders 29.99 each
small price to pay to ditch the 22 year old bench seat.

brought home the material for to finish up the truck. had to cut it in the parking lot to save the $12 a pcs cut rate. freaked out the girl behind the counter when she saw me in tha parking lot with a generator and my chop saw ( i asked if it was ok first) guess she didn't believe me then started the tube bed got the bottom all welded up and the side rails cut. should be able to get the bed all mocked up tomorrow.
