wanted 4runner within a day's drive of Tuscaloosa, al
I used to have a 94 with a 22re and standard trans, so that's my ideal. I'm open to ideas, though. Basically I just need a reliable rig that will get me to my surf spots when I head back home. Not looking to spend more than $4-5k , preferable closer to $2500. Not to be a dick, but check the bluebook. If you're asking $1000 more than high dealer bluebook, please don't bother. I'm really sick of dealing with people who think their transfer case was milled from solid gold.
The only things non-negotiable are 4x4 and std trans. I also have a 2001 suzuki SV650 with 10k miles I can use as partial trade, if anyone is interested.
I'm in tuscaloosa, AL, so I'm handy to memphis, nashville, atlanta, probably some other metros too. Let me know what you've got, email me at akshwuz@yahoo.com

Yeah, home for me is Corpus Christi, Texas. I usually make the run down to mexico a couple of times a year to go surfing. I don't need 4x4 much, but when I do I REALLY do! I'm actually here for work, I'm a travel nurse. I'm wanting to make another run to mexico when I get done here in January, but I really want to have the vehicle a few weeks ahead of time to work all the bugs out.
As for autotrader, craigslist, classistides, all those places... I've been scouring them like crazy. The toyota trucks and 4runners are out there, but they're stupid expensive. Honestly, I have never lived any place where people have their 4x4's so overpriced. And I've lived in Alaska and Hawaii, so that's saying a lot. Not only that, but the people I've talked to haven't been willing to bargain, so I guess someone is paying full price for them. Sucks for me though. I've bought and sold a lot of 4wd vehicles in my life (should have NEVER sold my 4runner though) and I've always used the blue book value to set my prices. When I go look at a first gen 4runner with 200k that I'd love to have, but it is priced $2000 over book, or a really nice 1994 xcab pickup that's $3000 over book, it just makes me want to cry.
Where are the honest deals I've always given people who have bought my old cars?
I'm a Yota lover, always have been... But I have to be honest, I'm starting to look for a cheap Sportage, just because of the bang-for-the-buck factor.
Someone rescue me here, restore my faith in humanity and the 4X4 community, please. You don't really want to see a dyed-in-the-wool toyota guy driving korean, do you?

Toyota: Don't settle for anything less or you'll be sorry you did.
Might be worth it to expand your search.
Colorado has a million 4runners with many good deals to be had.
I actually flew to CA to by mine only because i was really picky on what i wanted and the private seller was topnotch.
Good luck.

I am in T town and can tell you that around here folks use Toyota 4x4s for hunting so this time of year they are in high demand.
Also to note on older model Toyota 4x4s concerning blue book - pointless. That only tells you what a bank or insurance company thinks it is worth, not what they are going to sell for.
You are not going to find what you are looking for online as most trucks online are way over priced. I found my 85 ext cab at some small auto sales in Northport driving by one day and checking the local paper every day. The good deals are usually parked in someones front yard with a sign on it.
Good luck.
