orriginal goodyear mt

anyone have any input on these tires, other than "the mtr's are better". i know they are, but cannot afford them. i have found a set of the old, directional mt's for a good price, and they only had 1400 miles put on them before his truck got rear ended.

i was just wondering if anyone has had any off-highway experience with them. how well do they clean, how well do they work on the rocks, how good is the flotation in the sand?

A friend of mine had them on his k5 blazer and they lasted a long time and worked well

yes, i know that, i can get a set with 1400 miles on them for a pretty good price. and there are still on-line dealers selling them for real good prices, but the only ones readily available are the 37x12.5x16.5.

i knew that thread existed, but it didnt answer my question, it just tells me that the mtr's are better.

has anyone actually used these things?

I would also like to place a case of "Fat Tire" beer on the fact that the ATS arms push the tire out OVER 1".

I'll be at CO4RJ to collect my beer. Please make sure it is cold. There will be no chance of me being wrong so someone needs to please bring that case for me.

First of all, that thread was posted over here. Look down the page some on the 4Runner board. Now, hurry up and answer it or PM me before I go into the shop tomorrow and try things out! I'm serious about that. I really need to know what is going to offer the best fit. No one responded over here. I'm guessing because they didn't know. In addition, I mentioned it in my recent "electrician" thread. Come on, let's bring your batting average up here.

Secondly, I never questioned the ATS width unless you were referring to someone else. After all, it was you where I got the 1" figure from to begin with, and thought it may have even been wider but I couldn't recall for sure. No beer from me.

Let Jeff know I'll be expecting a case of Fat Tire.....................

I would go with the 4 9/16" back spaces wheels. Once the ATS arms moved the tires out over 1", I had to cut major pieces of the lower fender off with the Dremmel so I did not rub.

Remember I have NO FLARES what so ever. You'll have a hell of a cut job with 3 5/8" backspace.

Might want to rent a plasma cutter to save some time.



Mike (Group Buy) Rubs really really really bad with his 4.5 back spaced black rockcrawlers on the Limited flares. He even rubbed the paint off his newly re-painted silver flares in Martinez Canyon really bad.

Mark my words and bring me beer. 3 5/8" backspace will be disastrous on Colorado trails. Probably fine on the GWNF ATV ramp but I think your shooting higher.

What I did to my front fenders is NOT on my website. I hold some stuff back and this is something I have held back.


That is 1 case of "Fat Tire" brew. Thanks...........

We've exchanged a few emails already today, though I'm not sure he'd want to read the one you're proposing. Either that or he would and would fall out of his chair laughing at such an improbable event. I don't think you got your goods from last year's that you were requesting, did you? You should learn by now, we're no push-overs up here.

As for the wheels, I was thinking it might very well require a plasma cutter.

I mounted one up tonight and there is only .5" between the wheel and the brake caliper. So, I would think the 4 9/16" wheel would be very, very close or probably not work at all. Plus, at full droop, the tire rubs the A-arm a bit with the stock wheel, so those extra ~3/16" taken away wouldn't help things. The arm would probably need to be grinded down a bit if that wheel fit.

The wheel I mounted looked to be about an inch inside the flares, taking a straight edge straight down. So that is definitely out there. Add to that a bit extra width from the tire and yeah, I'm not surprised there could be some issues. If wheel travel wasn't an issue, I bet that would track width would look real nice taking up space directly below the flares.

I know nothing about the old GY mudders. However, Goodyear generally makes very good tires. Considering that the tire in question has been discontinued for several years, I bet you can get a very good price on them.

You should pick up the ORS manual hub kit since changeing out the front wheel studs will require pressing out the ADD spindles and will require two brand new 70 dollar each wheel bearings.

You'll have everything apart that the ORS kit requires so you might as well install it.

I like my "Fat Tire" chilled to around 50 degrees. This year your not going to take all the bypass's, bypass are you? Nooooo.
