Backspacing conundrum

Backspacing conundrum
I'm trying to figure this out, I think I have the answer but would like confirmation by those with more knowledge than I.
I've been reading that the stock wheels for my '98 4runner are 16X8 with a backspacing of 4 5/8". I'd like to get a set of steel wheels for my 4runner that are 16X8 with a backspacing of 4 1/4". With a smaller backspacing, would the new wheels sit further out 3/8" more than what I have on now?
I have no rubbing issues with my current setup so moving the wheels slightly wider should not affect anything, or so I think. Any input is greatly appreciated.

That's exactly the info I was searching for but for some reason never came up, makes perfect sense. Thanks.
