is a 4.3 vortec swap worth it?

Is a 4.3 vortec and sm465 swap on a 88-97 toyota truck worth it? I'll be doing a solid axle swap maybe dana 60s and I'll be running 35-38 inch tires. Will it still be underpowered if I run dana 60s and 35-38 inch tires? Also when doing a solid axle swap on a 88-97 toyota truck do I use the stock steering box? The engine wont be in the way of the steering shaft or steering box will it?

I'd try to find someone thats run that combo first. You can make anything fit in anything with a sawzall and big hammer, but the 4.3 is wide and 465 is short and tall. the 465 also weighs something like 200lbs. what t-case do you plan to run? the NP205 that comes behind a 4wd SM465 is a beast and only has a 2.0 low range gear reduction. I think you'd have to seriously open your tranny tunnel to fit that pig of a transmission in there. why do you need 1 ton axles for 35-38 inch tires with 160hp? D44s w chromoly shafts would stand up that hp and tire size combo for the weight of a minitruck.

If you use the stock steering box, you will need custom shorter steering arms for the Dana front axle or you wont get full turn. Sky makes a kit: http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/cgi...ey=TOY-CSK-D60

They are a little harder to find, and a little more expensive, but a 3.4L fits nice. You'd also have to spend some coin on a doubler, or an adapter to run a gear drive case w low gears off an R150f. Unless this going to be a mud truck, then you don't need the extra low gears.

If you want to do it on the cheap, then swapping an entire GM drivetrain would work, as long as you can make it fit. Or you could find an S10 with 4.3L already in it and SAS that instead. If you are set on a 4.3L in the toyota, It probably makes most sense to get a bellhousing adapter like most people do to bolt it up to the existing toyota drivetrain.

You can make anything work if you use a big enough hammer. That said, 4.3 swaps are pretty popular. Also if you use a th350 & an AA adapter to the toyota xfer case and not have to invent too much. makes a pretty compact pkg not much different than a 3.slo but better DNA.

I just want one ton axles. Maybe a 14 bolt full floater those are cheap to get. I'd consider a 4l60e or th350. I just really want a manuel. If I do run a sm465 i'd most likely use a np205. will the 190 hp vortec 4.3 be enough hp for what set up I want to run? S10 blazer and bronco 2 isn't a option I like toyota trucks.

I have a 2003 4.3 vortec with a 4l60e trans into marlin crawer toyota transfercases.Does it have power yes.hardest part was finding exhaust manifolds to fit the toyota frame and installing the chevy fuel system in the toyota tank.Yes its smog legal,No i would not do it again.Remember when you do a conversion you have to become the expert on that engine and such .No shop will want to work on it no matter how clean you do the install. If I was going to do it again ID find a toyota 22re turbo. At least I would get more then 12 miles a gallon. first time no lift kit installed after breaking that frame the second one I installed a 1 lift kit.Just made it little easier to work on.also use lizard skin on the firewall and under the cab it gets toasty in there when 4wheeling

I'm running a ca legal 4.3cpi mated to my r150 yoga trans but if i could do it over again id pick either a newer 4.3 or just went to a 5.3 v8 the swap itself wasn't difficult it helps to have the complete donor rig and do expect great mpg i think i get 14 in town and 18 on the freeway i am running jba headers that i had to modify on the drivers side to fit in the frame rail

Swap sell

I have a swap that I'm gonna sell if anyone's interested. Advance adapters setup comes with mounts, motor and tranny with a center force clutch. Universal wire harness and an external fuel pump would 1200$
