305 swap question
Hey guys, sorry if this has already been asked but I searched for a while and didn't find any other case on this. Here goes.. My dad decided to put a 305 w/ a turbo 350 tranny into his 89 P/U. He has the tranny mounted in place and is almost done making the motor mounts, but he just realized the torque converter that came with the tranny doesn't mount up to the 305 flywheel. So question is, can he get a different converter to mount to the 305? Or does he have to try and find a different flywheel pattern?
On a side note, does anyone know if the transfer case on a turbo 350 rotates at all? My dad was told it does.

A lot depends on the year of the engine, also there is no flywheel with an automatic tranny, just a ring gear. Most ring gears are drilled for a number of different torque converters depending apon the application. As to the transfer case, older versions would have the front shaft on the passenger side and newer ones on the driver side. While it may turn on the flange I don't think you would be able to hook up the controls, best to get the appropriate transfer case. Just wondering why the 305 it's a pretty crappy engine and the 4.3 v6 would seem an easier and more appropriate choice, also your mileage would be much better than any Toyota engine.
