I am contimplating doing an OM617 swap into my 85 4runner. I have access to inexpensive engines, and heard the swap is relatively easy and straight forward as I would get the kit with the adapter plate and engine mounts. Can anyone who has done this swap give me a full rundown of what needs to be done in addition to boltig on the tranny and dropping it in? Specifics would be great if possible, I seem to under think projects like these and end up having a difficult time finishing them, so I would like to know the exact process if anyone is up to sharing. Or if anyone has a link to a site that has it all condenced. I've read just about every build thread out there pertaining to these swaps, but would like to have it listed out so I have a better idea.

If you search through my thread toward the end like pages 14-16 I think there is a run down list of everything I used in mine. The link is my sig. Keep in mind I made my adapter and engine mounts so there is more crap in there than one will need. If you buy the kit you probably will need hoses and a bit of wiring. You also need to figure out a way to wire in the glow plugs. Gauge sending units are also something to consider as well as you will need a custom exhaust. I don't believe the 85's need the oil pan notched, I may be wrong. There isn't much room up front for fans on the radiator so you have to run electric fans. Radiator hoses are going to be custom. I made mine from exhaust tubing and used the bends from some hose I bought at the local parts store. Thats about all I can think of off my head. Just scan the builds here. Between those of us who have done it I believe every possible thing has been covered. It just takes time.

Look up Truckman, a member on here, as well.. He has TONS of info and is rockin 33mpg's and tons of power as we speak......(His is an 80 PU 4WD?) ........
