I found a killer deal on a '81 hilux diesel longbed and thought heck, why not throw it in my 4runner that's almost finished being restored. It's not running but the owner said he just rebuilt the pump, head and is almost there (we'll see tomorrow) I understand much of the 1L, 2L, 2L-T lines straight up with the 22R/RE mounts, etc. and they're tough to come by to say the least. I'll have pretty much everything for the swap (bellhousing, intake, ...) from the donor truck. The problem I see is changing the title to diesel and the smog laws associated with this. I'm wondering if anybody has done this swap and how it went. I've heard from a few the DMV can visually inspect it there easily, but I'm lookin for some input!

I too have found a 1L diesel engine and complete truck though I'm nervous about doing a swap. The 22 re that's in my truck now has less than 1200 miles and this diesel has 167,xxx. I'm looking also for info on just how hard it is to swap.

Not sure where you live but in MO as long as it will pass safety you are good to go. I had a little trouble with mine but that was because the inspection station didn't have a clue what they were doing.
