Lexus 1uzfe (4.0 V8) swap?

well i already posted this on mud but wanted to know what everyone here thought. I am contemplating building an fj60 landcruiser for my trail rig, one problem though is that they are all either carbed or as in the fj62 just plain slow. I don't want to do a Chevy small block because i like the idea of having a Toyota engine in there, and diesel seems really exspensive. The great thing about the 1uzfe(4.0 V8) is that they are reliable, powerful, good gas mileage, and cheap to find used oh and did i mention fuel injection and on some even VVTI. Any input as to how this can be done or if it has ever even been attempted in a 60 series cruiser before would help.

I moved your question to the "Other Toyota Swap" section of YT. Might get more eyes that way.

If no answers turn up, try this board as well.

check out www.uzswap.com for info on that engine in specific. I'm looking at that engine personally, and from what I understand, the mid-90s non VVT-i engines are a whole world easier to install. The biggest problem you'll have is in getting the parts from Australia where the 1uzve is a very common swap into toyotas with manual transmissions. I know that VVT-i makes it a lot harder to wire up properly, JDM toyota and American lexus engine parts have different wiring harnesses and clips, and that automatic transmission + 4x4 make this a nightmare swap. Check out that web page, tons of info there.

Hah! I just realized I missed the reply by a YEAR!

Between here, lextreme, uzswap, & pirate - you've got a lot of reading to do. Enjoy.

I think you'll be shocked at how much info there is out there for a swap so rarely done in the US.

Damn I'd love to do that swap into my 89. Maybe I could even spin a tire on wet pavement....

There are a few that have done it and all slightly different then the other. For teh transmission some buy the custom bellhousings from australia and other get the prerunner adapter from inchworm. I am likely going to start this swap into my rig and will have a build up thread on it. Lately finding a lot of good deals on those model of cars. I'm not a fan of uzswap.com, I find that lexusextremes has a lot more info more knowledgeable guys. Some of the best swaps would be Cebbys and RMAs right off the top of my head.

BTW: This is an old thread back to life?

Cebby started his in 2005 and he still isn't done but some of the technical info he learned is good info. - uzswap.com is his site.
