I am looking for any info on swapping a wire harness to convert my truck to efi? Some questions I have, how much of the harness under dash do I have to swap ie heater/ac ,steering column,power windows ect. or do I only have to swap the under hood harness to the computer. Do you think an in line electric fuel pump is the way to go or swap gas tanks. Also the p/s pump on the efi has a vac. line going to it, but the carb. model does not, what does the vac, line do. What year makes the best doner truck.

not sure what you mean, but only the block is the same..... everything else is different mechanically... you will not be able to just replace the intake manifolds and be doen with it..... the heads, intake and exhaust are different between the engines

I will be replace the motor with a self rebilt 22re. I hope to build 2 22re one for smog check (gotta luv CA) and one with more power.

pretty much all the power adding stuff for the 22re is smog leagal.. .you dont need 2 engines.... i have a 22r and it took me all of 20 minutes to swap back my smog stuff... it passed smog with everything set to specification.....

You say it took 20 min. What mods do have. I want to put in a cam, over sized pistons, injectors.... I want to go hog wild!!! I have owned a 82 SR5 4X4, 86 2WD extra cab w/long bed, 84 4runner Sr5, 93 2WD ,2000 tundra 2WD and all have been modified. I think I can 22RE swap in 4-5 hours. In other words I want as much hp gain with out going to a v6 or 8. I have read a few of your posts sounds like you know a good deal about toyotas and I would greatfull for any info you might have.

i dotn have any crazy mods.... but even the pretty wild mods on the 22re will still pass smog with the proper tuning, as long as it doenst spit gas out the tailpipe... and even pass stringent CA dyno2 smog

I did the EFI conversion on my 1983 Toy from a 1985 4runner. Basically, I'm running 2 wiring harnesses. The 85 runs all the engine/computer and is just spliced in at the ignition (2 wires). The 83 harness runs all the accessories. It is a ton of work and lots of wires!!! Get a good wiring diagram.

heres a kinda dumb question, i am going to a community college right now my first term and i had my first general auto repair class today well tey have a 84 4runner there right? and my teacher says its a 22re, and iwas like o they swapped the engine right? he said no ... its a factory efi 22re i was like hmmm thats odd. and he walked away now as far as i know it theres no factory 22re untill 86 right? or is he right? lol im confused its nice looking but has a idle drivablity issue i guess??? idk

He was right. They had a few 84 4runners and maybe pickups that had EFI. 85 had a lot more though.

I swapped a 92 RE into my 84 that had a 22R and had to cut and splice a few connectors in the cab but I think that was mainly because of the year differences. It took me about a week of working on it like 6 hours a day. Sometimes less. but i also have no fab skills so a lot of the down time was figuring out how to put the 92 2WD EFI gas tank in my 84 4WD Carb truck. and i had to cut a hole in the firewall for the extra strand of wires from the brain to the engine.
