Hood option's for a 3.4 swap.

Hi Guy's, Im doing my homework for a 3.4 swap at the end of the year, Im wondering what the option's are for the hood on my 93 4runner. I do want to add a supercharger also and didn't know if there were aftermarket companies that had pre fab hood's or does everyone just cut a hole in the center? Any advice and picture's will be greatly appreciated! Thank You.

I was able to get by (just bearly) without cutting a hole in the hood with a 1" body lift. But I had to take out the underhood insulation and cut out some of the cross bracing.

Once I pulled my insulation, my hood actually closed without any body lift. It was tight, though, so I cut the hood and put one of these on:

http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Ventshade...6902&sr =1-17

I left it unpainted black and on my gray 4Runner, it almost looks stock. It's pushed right up to the washer nozzles. I should take a pic and post it sometime.

How much higher does the engine with the S/C sit compared to just the 3.4 buy itself?

Probably depends on what you are planning to do with the vehicle. You'll have to deal with some other mods like shift levers and steering rod. Generally something that isn't to bad, but can add some complications.

I ended up cutting a small hole. Simple enough for now:

I don't have a body lift or a supercharger.

Breknraj did a really nice mod to his hood also... but I can't find the thread about it. I thought it was in his 3.4 swap. Maybe he'll chime in or PM him for some more info.

It's kind of hard to find.

It does sit higher but I'm not sure the exact difference. It couldn't be too much though, the newer 2nd gen (black paint) is lower than the 1st gen (gray paint) by about 3/4" IIRC. I already had a 1" BL is why I used that, if I was to do one again I'd do 1 1/2" BL. Roger (4crawler) will make custom sizes.

I am gonna be doing a 2nd gen black s/c 3.4 swap into my 90 and I am thinking about cutting the hood and putting a CHEVY COWL INDUCTION SCOOP on and glassing it into place it measures out fine will fit perfectly between the washer things and fits the natural beds of the stock hood.

There is one in South OKC, but they suck. I think they dismantle everything with a crow bar lol.

Thanks for your service to our country BTW. Lets roll

hood scoop

I used a smaller copy of the Mustang scoop (Evil-bay $40). Long-term plans call for a cowl-hood. I don't have any body lift, so I needed to trim about an 8x10 offset hole in the hood.
