Angry My coolant overflow is spewing coolant? any suggestions on what it might be?

well just rebuilt the 94 pickup, put on 250 miles, only problems that whole time was a belt from the cooling system blew itself off, the valve cover bolts ratteld loose and dripped a little oil, and a fuse blew. but now when i start and drive my beast, it will fill up the coolant resevoir with coolant and then blow it out the top cap, what could that be? im trying desperatly to get my truck running good so i can make it to yotajam and this is only thing holding my up right now, any help would be appreciated!!

(ps, i dont think its the head gasket cause i put on 250 miles without a problem, but could it be? im not sure, the coolant dosent really reak of exhaust though!) thanks

Did you replace the radiator cap? Sometimes a bad radiator cap will cause coolant to spew out when it's not supposed to.

yeah i replaced the cap, my next plan of action from reading about stuff online is to replace the thermostat and the head gasket tommorow. i think its a combo of both of those cause when the truck is at idle after ive been running for a couple minutes thick white smoke that has a smell of mapel syrup just flows out every leak and whole in the exhause system. so i think its the head gasket. but who knows.

thanks for any help i may get!

I think I'm going to have to agree with you on the HG.

Good Luck

I had the same problem when I changed the t-stat on my 3.0. The problem was that I didn't have enough coolant in there, and it wasn't very much that made the difference, like maybe a quart or so was all that made the difference, weird. It may also be that I was able to force a bubble out or something. Fill, start, fill, start, fill, start, until there just is no more room to pour any more into the rad...worked for me at least.

You need to fill up the engine block on the 3.0. Take the top hose off the radiator. You can loosen the clamp to the engine and rotate it so that it is point up. Now fill it up with the 50/50 mix. Reconnect to the radiator and then fill it.

If that doesn't do it then I second the vote for the HG

Hey Wade, before you do anything make sure your radiator are clean and free of mud, dirt or any other thing. Also make sure the radiator for the AC is clean. You be amazed on what can get packd in your radiator. My 97 3.4 was overheating the same way after I went wheeling on some ash piles behind a coal burning electric plant I replaced the cap and nothing changed until i powerwashed the complete radiator, it completly caked (my runner got black lung)

Hate to say this , but it sounds like a BHG to me. I had an 87 Supra that did the same thing. If you want to try to remove air from the system , park with the front of the vehicle uphill , remove the rad cap , turn the heater on high , and add coolant as needed. Sometimes that works.

well i hate to say it, but it was the head gasket, and it was the head craked itself i belive, its pouring oil and water together and pouring out oil into the exhaust. oh well, just more money gone away...... i dont have to worry about the ac radiator thingy, i took out all my ac and converted it to a air compressor!!! best thing i ever did, and all the ricers think i did it for the power!!!

later
