Does anyone know of a good mechanic in North Carolina (preferably eastern NC) that has experience with Toyota engine swaps. I have a 93 DLX 4x4 3.0 5-speed that I really want to fix up. I have owned this truck since '94 and I am very attached. I have a '06 Tundra and now a take home work vehicle, so my '93 has decided to protest by running extremely rough. It has 189,000 miles and it appears that the clutch now needs work as well. The motor has several oil leaks, especially around the valve covers. I figured if I was going to go through the expense of having someone try to fix the oil leaks and repair whatever is causing the motor to run rough, I might as well look into swapping the engine out for something with more power and mileage like many others on this site. Unfortunately, I am not a mechanic, so swapping the engine is more than I can do myself. However, I haven't been able to find a mechanic that has experience with this. I would prefer to not have to go through the expense or headaches that come with trail and error. I will also take advice on which swap is the easiest. I want this truck to be capable of 4 hour trips to the beach because I kayak fish and I would like to design future modification around fishing and hunting. Thanks.
