Is SAS on a 2wd legal in California?
I recently purchased an '86 2wd pickup. I was playing with the idea of eventually doing a SAS / 4x4 conversion on it, and it got me thinking if that was actually legal in California. I know a lot of people probably just do it and do not have any problems, but I was just wondering if it was actually legal other than the usual 4x4 problems such as mudflaps, bumper heights, etc. I did quite a bit of searching, including in the California Vehicle Code, and I cannot find anything directly related to that. It seems that the DMV would want it weighed if nothing else, and I could see insurance being a slight problem. Does anyone know if it is legal in California? Is it known to be illegal in any other states for that matter?
