Well im not sure that would be doing it right for me cuz that would involve leaving the chain driven transfer case, and i really dont wana do that. Ive been researching quite a bit lately and think im leaning towards like a dana 60 or some kind of 3/4 or 1 ton axles. That way it will be indestructible and i can run dual cases. What do you think of that?

well whats the diamond axles? Ive heard about them, but dont know much bout them. I def want to do this one right the first time cuz im keepin it. I got rid of my 2nd gen sas 4runner and kick myself for doin it!! I gota keep it to a $6000 limit or so right now, but can add to it later. I just really want somethin i can wheel the crap out of and dont have to worry bout breakin. I want to run 38 inch boggers, and still wana be able to drive it down the road once in a while!

So what would be the advantage of running the diamond axle then? For the price do you think it is worth it?

The Diamond housings are works of art (and the price reflects that) and allow you to run high or low pinion Toyota 8" thirds. However, I assume the '98 4Runners have the same front suspension as the Tacomas (?) so, they're about 6" wider than '79-'85 front ends so, you'll have to factor in the cost of custom legnth inner shafts, and Longfields, high steer.......starting to get pretty expensive? Or, you could pick up a later model Wagoneer (driver's side pumpkin) D44 from a PAP yard for about $150 (complete with brakes and about the perfect width, as is) throw on some highsteer arms, regear, add locker of your choice, maybe add some alloy shafts (not neccessary but, recommended.....they're not too expensive, though) and CTMs, Bobby Long cryo'd joints or any of the other available high strength joints out there and keep the stock shafts as spares (don't have that option with custom length shafts ) Then with the money you saved you could maybe set it up with radius arms (I prefer the simplicity over 3 and 4 links) and coilovers to preserve the nice ride it had before you cut everything off That's just what I would do (I'm trying to talk my brother into going this route)........just a suggestion ---------Hans
