I have a 95 3vze with 226,000 that is pretty much stock. I like the tail gate...used it to haul all sorts of gear. I chose it over a truck 12 years ago and couldn't be happier. But, it really depends on what your lifestyle is.

I would buy a 22R truck with 104K miles over a 3VZE 4Runner with 226,000 any day.
In general I think it's a smarter decision to buy most any vehicle with 104K miles vs. one with 226K on it.
Get the truck, it will get better gas mileage and will most likely last longer. Those gen 4Runners with the V6 are a dime a dozen and will cost you a lot more in repairs, especially with those miles.

Is there a big cost difference between the two? Condition of the two vehicles (just because a vehicle has lower mileage does not mean it is in a better condition)? Extras included with both vehicles (bumpers, winch, lights, etc)?

Two different vehicles it all comes down to what you want.
For me at times the pick up is great to haul stuff around in most of the time other peoples stuff.
Then other times the enclosed cargo area of the 4Runner is great.
ever plan on going any place with more than just one more person 4 doors do come in handy at times.

$2000 for each.the truck has a decent amount of rust on the sides of the bed.very little rust on the cab though and the interior is in great shape.the 4runner needs tires and has rust starting on the rear fenders.

If the truck is in sounds mechanical shape then I would get it. You can always get replacement body panels (fiberglass or metal your choice). Plus if you want an enclosed cargo area you can find cheap camper shells on craigslist for $100-$300 for older Toyota trucks.
