Love that new rig smell (FJC)
I stopped by Doxon's to see the very first one and only one they have received since the launch.
A woman employee bought it, but they are keeping it on display each day she drives it in.
I asked inside if I could sit in it, and I was told yes.
I never did see her, she is back in one of the offices.
My first impressions and more:
1. It be huge.
Looks bigger than a 4Runner, 3rd or 4th gen.
2. The 32" tires dwarf my 31" tires.
Could be the effect of them too on the 17" rims too.
The optional 17" alloys?
Nice, very nice!
3. Opened up the door and that small I have not had the pleasure of sniffin' oh so long hit me.
New vehicle smell baby!
4. Interior is gorgeous, very off road looking too.
Seats felt very comfortable.
5. Looked over both shoulders simulating a right and left turn to change lanes.
Bad, very bad.
Must use mirrors.
She had round spot mirrors stuck to the factory mirrors too.
6. Looking in the rear view mirror out the back window to see was bad too.
This would take some getting use to for sure.
I imagine with practice you get use to it.
7. The rig felt like it sat up high enough too.
Looking out the front window reminds me of the Army Humvees, narrow and angled up, not sloped like I am use to.
I think it would only take a bit to get use to the blind spots.
Hers had the rear locker switch and auto, nothing else on the dash as far as traction devices.
Two baby seats in the rear so I doubt it very much if this is going to be off roaded very much.
Overall I was very impressed with it.
Too bad I could not drive it though, they are not letting anyone of course since it is sold.
Any Auburnites on the forum should drop by Doxon's and take a good gander at it and ask to sit in the cockpit.
Yes, cockpit, everything is laid out very nicely.
And those huge heater controls are very easy to grab too.

Yeah, that smell is my addiction. It's probably a volatile aromatic carcinogen, but what a way to go.

Yeah, that smell just kind of grabs you.
I was like a kid sittin' on a new bike at Xmas.
I just hung onto the wheel and moved it back and forth (sorry lady if you are reading this) and stared at the cool looking dash.
She had an iPod too hooked upto the acc. jack to play her tunes through the system.
The interior is very cool, but will take some getting use to the windows.
Speakin' of windows, future FJ owners, carry some Windex with you at all times.
There seems to be a surge of new marks showing up on FJ windows.

I went and checked one out at the dealer the other day. I wasn't too impressed. So far the ONLY thing that gets better in Toyota trucks is the engines. I did like the smell though.
I hate to say this but if I ever decide I'm going to buy a new 4X4 toyota is pretty much forcing me to buy a Jeep. I guess I'll just have to keep my 95 alive forever. Just my $.02

Sadly, my truck lost that scent after a couple years.
I missed it so bad I bought an air freshener that was supposed to be "new car" scent. Ick, no way.

I saw it today for about one minute. I was over at Doxon Toyota on other business and parked next to it. I was going to look it over when I was done inside, but it was already gone by the time I got out of there in a couple of minutes. It does look nice.

Test drove a automatic today. First time i've seen it in person. Not to impressed with the exterior as much as I thought I would be, but the interior is amazing. The blind spots are there, but after a few miles of driving I had already gotten use to them. Neat little feature on this is the driver's side glove box located on the dash. I thought that was pretty neat. I like the way the rear doors open as well, except for the fact that you have to reach around the door and access the door lever from the inside instead of having a handle on the door jam.
Overall I like it though. Sometime between the 14th and 23rd we'll be getting a 6-speed silver model that I'm really looking forward to test driving.
If you haven't test driven it, I'd say go for it just for kicks.
