I had a similar problem with the pax side door on my 94 once... basically the lubrication had worn off and the linkage had seized up. I pulled the inner door panel, removed some old pine tree needles that were biding around the mechanism {no idea how they got there}, fiddled with it a bit manually to free it up and white lithium spray greased the thing like crazy. since then no issues [touch wood]....
hope this helped

edit: you may also have a problem with the key cylinder it self sometimes they get corroded and the pins seize. if they do not move freely they will not engage the key properly and the cylinder will not turn.
i'd try a lock de-icer spray with a hot key followed by a a good shot of graphite lock lube and see if that frees it up before you pull the door panel.

If you need a new cylinder almost any locksmith shop will be able to recode the replacement to match your existing key for around $20

Has it always been this way when you bought the truck? New or used? If used and it's always been this way...are you sure the key going to the door matches the rest of the truck?

Here's some insight on how to disassemble/reassemble the lock if yer willing to give it a try... []

You might be able to source some locks at the yard, too...

A quick shot of PB Blaster in the key cylinder is what I used to free up two seized lock cylinders this past weekend. It worked in approx 5 seconds, and they are now just like new. If it's the linkage that's seized, you'll need to take the door panel off.
