Replacing radio

I just bought a radio out of a 93 carrola so what i am wondering is if i buy a wiring harness that fits the plug in the back of the radio if the wires would match up with my 88 pickup wires for the original radio? might be a dumb question but i dont wanna mess something up lol

does the truck have a harness in it now? if not youll either have to get a new harness or run wires yourself. if i was you i would just get a plug to fit that radio and wire it yourself.

as long as it's non-JBL, which may have self-amp'd rear speakers, you should be able to plug right into your existing harness connectors. are they already cut off? if they're cut, a metra plug is like $15 at pepboys to replace it.

browse ebay for toyota radios, and then find ads with pictures of the rear of the unit, for comparison. should take 5 mins to see a few and get what i'm talking about.

I'd look at this part. If it doesn't work Amazon will take it back and pay return shipping.

these are what you should have coming out of your dash, and plug directly into a toyota radio:

(if you need these, they are metra part# 71-1761. 71 is male, 70 is female shown in the other post)

those are what you'd attach to an aftermarket radio so it plugs into a toyota factory harness. i don't think that's what he needs if he has a toyota radio.

Having just put a pioneer in my yesterday, I just hardwired everything. If you go to http://www.installdr.com/quickwiring.asp and click toyota it gives you what colors go where for the ones that are coming out of the truck.......

Great Thread-I am installing a sony CDX-GT56UI 52watt x 4 tuner and CD player with USB in my 1994 Truck. The previous owner cut off the harness under the dash when he installed an aftermarket radio.

I have the Metra 70-1761 and 71-1761 harnesses. Each came with two harnesses and my raido has one plug in and it came with a harness. The wires under the dash do not seem to be enough to hard wire both harnessses to and neither does the aftermarket radio.

I have the wiring diagram and need a little help on what goes where. I hope to have a plug in set up so if I change radios again, the harnesses are ready and clean under the dash for me or the next guy.

Thanks and these boards are awesome!

I can't remember how many times I've replaced the radio in my cars. My truck has probably had 5 or 6 different ones in it before I was satisfied lol. I basically ran my own wires, only using the factory illumination, accessory, and battery wires.

Thanks for feedback. I pulled the installdr color code chart off the first part of the post. It is the best I've seen. Once I get the female harness that hardwires to the radio I'll be able to picture it better. Wire cross check to dash and radio and installdr color coding are accounted for with only two wires on the dash being extras namely-light green and the red w/ black stripe. The dash set has a brown ground and the radio ground I think is a black wire.

More later-
Thanks

Im new here so bare with me. I just installed a new JVC navigation stereo and the only problem I'm having is that when I turn on my headlights the interior clock and outside temp turn off. I've troubleshot by removing the stereo and hooking up the stock and still get the same results.

Thanks for the link - very helpful. Maybe I'm missing it, but I'm still at a loss for connecting the "illumination" wire on my stereo to my '87s wiring harness...any suggestions?

Best,
