Well I don't have personal knowledge of the 98s but on my 99 the taillight converter box was on the drivers side rear.

a single wire comes in from the right side and that fed my right turn signal-this wire is under the flooring and pops up out of a square hole.

Don't take apart your right side unless you absolutely think you need to.

You got the Hopkins converter "43135" or something like that?

Let me know if you want me to take a quick look at it. Glad to help ya out. This is one of the few electrical issues I actually understand now.

Got a tester? or how are you confirming all of the connections-just with the trailer itself(?)

see my point here....? I still think you may have an issue on the trailer itself, but I am only going by what I am reading from you.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the offer for help. Everything is hooked up and all my electrica is working on the truck (interior lights, brake lights, turn signal lights, parking lights, cruise control). I need to stop by U-haul to test the electrical connection, they test for free. It was confirmed prioro that my problem was from the truck because I had 2 different people test the signal from the truck. Hopefully this Hopkins part will work. FYI, the part is available at Advanced Autoparts.

I will let you know how the testing goes.

Hi Ron,
I switched wires to keep the converter box on the driver side. When I tested of course the trailer lights were the opposite of my truck turn signal. I just need to switch the wires and I will be good. Thanks for the help.
