1992 motor swap elec issues

I am changing the motor in my daughter's 1992 P/U 22re (AT) with a Jasper motor from an 86(M/T). Luckily the crank is the same...Whew!! problem 1, the elec connectors are different shapes than that of the 92 harness. (Basically need an 86 AND 92 wire diagram to figure it out). The 86 motor only has about 30K on it and the injectors were just replaced, so I really want to use MOST of the parts from the 86, obviously. I find myself asking....Do I want to use most of the old parts or cut of the elec connectors, replace them and use the new parts? Anybody?? If anybody has them, please help me out with the schematics from the 92 AND the 86. Sorry long-winded...long story. Meanwhile...Daughter is driving MY 2010 Tundra to work...GRRRR!!

The 86 22re will swap into the 92 just fine, but if you plan on using the 86 electronics then you have quite a task ahead of you.
In 1984 Toyota redesigned the 22r to be fuel injected and came out with the 22re in 1985. These engines and electronics stayed the same until mid 1988.
Before mid 1988 they had low impedence injectors (approx2-3 ohms) with a resistor pack built into the body harness. After mid 88 Toyota redesigned the electronics and introduced high impedence injectors (approx. 13.8 ohms) and removed the resistor pack from the body harness. The 1986 ECU is not designed for high impedence injectors and if you try and run low impedence injectors using the 92 ECU without a resistor pack you will quickly burn up the solenoids in the injectors. So you really only have two options:
1) Remove the 92 engine and body harness, install the 86 harnesses and ECU and run it as an 86, but I doubt all of your interior dash plugs will match up and if you have emissions testing where you are you will probably fail. "or"
2) Install the 86 22re into your 92, install the 92 sensors and injectors into the 86 motor and then it basically becomes plug and play.
Seeing as though you seemed to pressed for time and you want your Tundra back I'd go for option 2, because if you choose option 1, you better give it several weeks and then there is no guarantee that you didn't miss something and you might be into a nightmare trying to get it to run right!
Good Luck

Funny you say that!

Exactly what I did was option #2. Right now, it is in and ready to run, with a few exceptions. The vacuum system is also different. This is gonna suck. engine fires, but starter doesn't shut off in time and kills it. I'm gonna pull the starter and see if it needs shimmed. It's pretty obvious the difference in starters as well... I'll let ya know, but in the meantime, would love a nice Vacuum and e;ectrical map of where everyhting SHOULD go from an 86 to 92! Anybody?? LOL.

Ahhhhh!!!

Starter issue is good to go...Turns over good with good spark, but will not start. wants to fire, but not enough to idle. Next checking TDC, just incase (Didn't touch the distributor or timing chain, but changed to flywheel and torque converter from clutch and manual flywheel??) So many differences between a) going from 1992 to 1986 and b) manual to auto. Vacuum is all different, electrical for fuel, Line, lines, lines...subtle differences everywhere!! If anybody has run into something similar, please hit me up!! Bob
