Viper 160xv remote start install 01 4Runner

Trying to install Viper 160XV remote start in 2001 4Runner. No factory alarm, not sure if it has immobilizer.
When I try to start the truck with key in "OFF" position, it cranks but the engine doesn't start. But when I turn the key to "ON", it DOES start with remote. However, it doesn't matter if I use the black factory key or a key copy, it starts in the "ON" position either way. When the truck starts, the brain keeps "clicking" on and off, like it still wants to keep trying to start, or doesn't "know" that the engine has started. Since I'm using the tach wire, I would think the brain would recognize the engine is running and stop trying to start.

Is this a wiring problem, or is there something wrong with the brain?

i believe that the 01 toyotas had an option for an immobilizer but they didnt all come with one. im pretty sure it was just the LTDs with the factory alarms. however i have done numerous alarms/rs's and ive never had to run an immobilizer in the newer toyotas except the avalons. i would make sure that your wiring is all correct and that you have the right ignition wire. most of the time when they will crank but not start it is either an immobilizer is needed or you rs is not getting a "true" ignition. that is when the ignition reads 12v at all times except with key off (acc, ign, cranking, and running). if it doesnt read 12v at all of those times (especially at cranking) then it will do what you said.

and btw the clicking is normal. it is the rs testing the tach/voltage to make sure the vehicle is running properly.

hope that helps...
