Stuck in baja with ignition problem, need some advice
I HAVE A 92 4RUNNER AND THE KEY WILL NO LONGER TURN IN THE IGNITION. COULD THIS BE A IGNITION PIN? I AM IN REMOTE BAJA SO MY ONLY OPTION IS TO FIX THE CURRENT IGNITION. DOES ANYONE KNOW A WAY OF DOING THIS. I HAVE TOOLS AT MY DISPOSAL. YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

Hate to point out the obvious, but I'm good at it...
Have you tried turning your steering wheel and taking the pressure off the key cylinder and see if it turns?

It wouldn't be the first time I've ever seen it happen. Usually in parking lots, when someone cranks the wheel to get into a spot, then they let it thwack against the anti-theft lock when they shut the vehicle off.
I've seen some might sheepish expressions when I've grabbed their wheel, pulled it, and told them to "try it now" and it works...

man I hate caps lock...
but anyway! Make sure the steering lock isn't messing with the ignition, jiggle it while turning the key. Sounds stupid but I've gotten calls from friends with the same problem, sometimes it can get really stuck for some reason.
Other than that...well if you're really in a pinch, bust the ignition and hot wire it, you just need to connect the two main leads on the back of the housing and get past the steering lock.

You will likely have to remove the ignition cylinder to get past the steering wheel lock. I will get the wiring diagram out later and let you know which wires you need to jump to get the truck running.

I had to give a friend a hand at the River one year. A guy broke the key off in the ignition on a '90 2wd Toy. Getting the ignition apart was the easy part. Breaking the steering lock took some hammering with a chisel or tough screwdriver.
Once the ignition cyl was out I just had to find the 'always hot' wire and connect it to the 3? remaining wires, one at a time, to find "ign on" and then the one for the starter.
Think it out before you drink. Good luck and be safe. Make sure that steering wheel lock is completely eliminated so you don't kill yourself on those trecherous roads down there. They have enough crosses along side the road.
