new spark plugs= pinging?
hey yotatechers, i recently changed my girlfriends spark plugs on her honda. we went to two places, all they had was laser platinum spark plugs, irridium for the NGK and denso brands. then they had the crappy autolites. so i took the NGK irridiums. i put them in her car just like i did in my truck, i think i may have done something wrong because the car pings. im guessing its the spark plugs, maybe it could be something else.
i put the plugs on pretty tight, then a 1/4 turn (thought that was the standard)...
anyways, i thought i did a good job, how can i fix this. if its not, we have to try high octane gas...
we just bought the car too, so it might have those "undiscovered problems"...

i would, but its like we just paid like 30 bucks for them. should have just gone to honda. do you think its because of the way i put them in? or the plugs themselves?

Dang $30? So they were around $7 apiece? I'm not sure if over-tightening them would affect how the engine runs. I guess you could try loosening them up a bit.

I've come across many supposed "pre-gapped" plugs that were no where near the correct gap. A couple have been as much as .020" too much even, and they were platinum and the "non-adjustable" gap type like your iridiums. So, in my book there's no such thing as "pre-gapped" spark plugs, that's a myth. ALWAYS check the gap before installing.
I would check the spark plug wires too, make sure all connections are tight, ohms below 25k(or whatever Honda specifies).
1/4 turn past finger tight should be fine. That's if they have the gaskets, if they're the no gasket type more like 1/16 turn.
