New heater core but no heat

New heater core but no heat
I have a 1986 toyota pickup. 22re. I recently went in through the top end to replace timing chain and cover. New gaskets all the way around. New thermostat. No oil leaks or water leaks. After rebuild, oil looks good, coolant looks good.
I had very little heat before the rebuild but zero heat after. Then i replaced heater core and heater control valve. Still no heat. Heater hoses get hot but no heat inside the truck.
Any suggestions?

you sure the heater control valve is actually opening? ie moving with the slider. Could have an air bubble in it as well. Maybe the air flapper is not directing the air over the heater core like it should as well.

What caused the no heat problem that you decided to replace the heater core and the valve on the firewall??
Are Both the hoses hot coming and going from the heater core . Make sure the valve is all the way open watch while someone moves the control
Like stated a air pocket will cause a no heat problem as well if the coolant level is to low

try removing the valve and using a piece of copper pipe or such. if you get heat you know its that valve.
i recently fixed the heat on my 81. there was a birds nest on the heater core. lol
also check all your dampers and hoses. The sealing material on the dampers seams to turn to dusty crud.

thoughts like this make people change things they don't need to.

I have narrowed the issue down. It is most likely a plugged steel/copper line coming from the block or an air bubble that will not purge.
I have the copper couple installed in place of the valve. I tried parking the truck on a hill with the radiator cap open, truck running.
Next step is pulling the lines from the block. Any good ideas for burping the cooling system?

take off the hoses that feed and come off the heater core, then hook up a garden hose and turn it on it will flow threw and if there is no flow then hook up back wards and flush it. might of gotten something in it to not let it flow water

I guess i was trying to say it would tell him to look at the valve and associated controls.
As for burping the system i have had good luck by draining out some of the antifreeze into an acceptable contained then filling the system back up through one of the heater core hoses with the radiator cap off.
Edit: Also squeezing the upper radiator hose while the radiator isnt filled to the brim seems to help get some of the air out.

AHHHHHHHHHH! LOL. My yelling is due to the fact that I'm dealing with this, right now,......and I can't even find time to try the 'backflush' method. BUT< tomorrow, I'll try to get out and run through some of these suggestions. Thanks for posting this, DSMiley, .... I'm subscribed and watching, hoping to find some more things to try out. Seeing as my rig seemed to have heating issues B4 my rebuild,.....I'm really thinking it is more likely to be a plugged core or broken cable or whatever else of the workings might effect HEATERS from not getting hot in the cab.
How tough was it pulling your core? Not sure if it's the same in your model,....should be.

I have a new core sitting here that does not go to my truck. It was given to me by "someone" who I won't name names. We don't know what year it is supposed to be for though as it did not match an 88 3vze 4runner, a 92 22re pickup or an 87 22r pickup.

the one hose tube (drivers side) on it is short like on mine, but the other (passenger side) is quite a bit longer and is bent down a little. (on purpose)

Pulling my heating unit was actually alot easier than alot of people make it sound. Then again i have an 81 lol.
After the glove box was out, a few bolts, and the hoses were disconected the heater unit came right out with some wiggling.
