best way to upgrade brakes?
What is the best way/products to upgrade my brakes on my 4runner..it has an '84 front axle. I was thinking drilled and ported rotors..with a lot of choices I'm trying to figure all this out. I'm replacing my front axle seals because they are blowing oil all over my rotors and brake pads. And until I make it my full time wheeler I still have the drums in the rear.it has a carbed Chevy 4.3L on 36's

Drilled rotors can have stress cracks that appear after a while. best direction would be get biggest discs that fit and uprated brake pads form brembo ferado mintex ebc etc. i have found grooved discs can wear pads faster than with out grooves.

A lot of people with your setup will simply run a pair of IFS V-6 (88-95) calipers and a pair of vented FJ40/60 rotors. Everything bolts up, there is no need to modify anything, and parts can be found cheap. If you dig a little deeper I think there were some differences with the caliper regarding piston sizes but they should all work. I have never run cross drilled or slotted rotors but I hear a lot of people complain the they get mud and crap packed in there when wheeling leading to extra wear and loss of breaking plus I don't think you will see any performance benefit from those types of rotors for the type of driving you will be doing.

I bought pads, rotors and calipers for a 93 4runner V6. nice upgrade, but I ran 33's being the biggest tire. Good quality pads help too. I got Centric premium ceramic pads. Been two years now and not a single issue or squeak.
