2nd Gen 4Runner RooF Dimensions
Does anyone know the exact width and length ( before the curve of the roof ) of the roof of a 4Runner? trying to fit a roof rack on my truck, but I want to make sure my measurements are either close, or exact.
I got between:
35-40" W
80-90" L
Depending on where I measured it.
Anyone else ever measured their 2nd gen 4Runner's roof?

Mak this is simple lmao..
you measuring from the curve at the windshield, to the curve at the back?
i have a sunroof, not sure if you do, didn't know if you'd want the rack extending over the sunroof lol

And I have no sunroof or factory roof rack, so i'm taking advantage of it by going with a rack that covers the entire roof ( I dont think anyone in a 2nd gen 4Runner has done that yet, but could be wrong )

i measured at the front, above the front doors, 45" across, that was taken from where it curves down into the door seal. so that's accurate.
i got about 89" from front to back, measured along the passenger side so i wasn't going over the stock roof "rack" so it's accurate too, i read the measurement from where the roof STARTS to slope slightly downward towards the windshield.

I'm doing something a little different than most.
I've been talking to the owner of www.frontrunner.com and they dont exactly make an application for 2nd gen 4Runners, but they do for 3rd, 4th, and 5th. as well as other toyotas, jeeps, chevys and fords.
but they think if I get the dimensions right, I could fit the 3rd gen roof rack on my truck. and since my truck is completely bare on the roof ( which really helps out a lot ) I can order a rack from them, and get my rails installed according to the width of the mounts on the 3rd gen rack. make sense?
Bascally what i'd be getting is:
http://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/Roof-Racks-c35/
And
http://www.racknroad.com/product/yak...ch-1135rp.html
FrontRunner has a lot of accessories that can attach to the rack ( roof top tents, hi jack lift, shovel, lights, jerry cans, spare tire, fridges, water tanks, etc etc ) which is why i'm going with it. Its also a very slim rack, and its made of aluminum ( light weight, but durable ) They also guarantee that it will slide onto the yakima tracks as long as the dimensions are correct
Also, the link I showed you of the tracks, is with the whole package. But i've already called and its only 145 dollars for the tracks shipped to my house, but theres one down the street. and If i want them to install it professionally, and with a lifetime warranty and guarantee of no leaks, ever. its another 180... so 325. Not a bad price?

Also, Here's a picture of a 4th gen that did the same idea i'm thinking of doing. His looks weird in the front because 4th gens have a much larger and longer curve in the front above the windshield. Therefore, he could only have 3 legs each side because his rails had to be mounted further back so he cannot support as much weight in the front as I will be able to.

Did you get yours installed? I'm looking to install something on my 2nd Gen so I can get an ARB Roof Top Tent.
I want something on rails I think so I can remove it and not have permanent hideous posts. Plus I have very little clearance left in my garage so it needs to be low.

Damn, my missus started looking at tents last night. This releases cash for my vehicle for this purpose and I want to figure something out before she changes her mind and we get plane tickets for somewhere.
She wants to do a little trip and there is little accommodation this far North. So it's this tent idea or Vegas.
