will an 89 tercel motor fit my truck

I have an 89 pickup with the 22r motor in it. The previous owner did not change the timing tentioner and the chain ate the water pump. He decided to replace the bearings and the rings when replacing the chain and water pump. I bought the truck really cheep and started it up for the first time after the seed repairs. I got about 15 miles and it started knocking something fierce. So I have parked it. My question is will the r22 out of a Tercel fit in my truck? Will the transmition in my truck fit the block? Thanks guys.

Tercel had a 22r in it? I had one of those things in college it had a 1.5l motor in it.

You sure its not a Celica? or else someone did some fancy stuff to your Tercel!!

I believe everything will swap over, long block to long block. I have heard differences in throttle bodies, but I have not seen it myself to verify. Especially if they are both the same year, even the sensors should have all the same electrical plugs.

not if the celica is an 89 , that would b a front wheel drive. since 86 i believe. u need 82 to 85 celica for a 22r, 85 only for a 22re

Thanks for the clarification. I never had a celica. Just the tercel as a poor college kid.

Longblock to longblock. Your electrical plugs from your harness might be different. Most places sell long blocks that fit 85-95.

Exhibit A

[So it is the same engine than. This is a work truck and not worth spending 1k on at this time. I just need to get it running so that I can make some money to really fix it up you know. Thanks for all your help.
