So my 95 4runner starts up just fine when cold. No problems there. If I try to restart it while still warm, within a half hour or so of turnning it off, it runs rough, and almost stalls, or will stall. I am figuring on the fuel pressure regulator, but Im open to any suggestions. I have had this problem with my other toyota as well (1986 toyota van) Others suggested the fuel pressure regulator on that one as well, but sold the van before diagnosing it.

The cold start injector might be spraying when it shouldn't be.

I recently started having this problem. I have a 2000 SR5 4runner with 180K. When I drive for at least an hour or so and stop somewhere like a gas station for 5 minutes, it will stall out when I try to restart. After a couple tries it will eventually restart. Anyone else have more knowledge on this. Should I go ahead and try replacing the fuel pressure regulator?

manasty welcome aboard and your ride is a 3rd gen Runner while the Original Poster (OP) is a 2nd gen Runner.

That's a thread hijack and don't be scared- this is Newbie Tech and no one is going to yell at you for posting your own thread. In fact feel free to post in the appropriate Tech Section specific to your ride. For you that would be 3rd Gen Runners 96-2002. The solve for you may or may not be the same as the OP's issue.

now back to jhershner with the mac. I had similar issues with my 95 back in the day. It is very much like a symptom of 'flooded' if you ever had a carbureted vehicle. Next time it happens get the hood up and sniff around for gasoline odor.

I believe the fix for me was an actual O ring somewhere but the specifics escape me here in the wee hours of Weds AM.

You can see my mini novel below my post -so folks know at a glance that I am discussing my V6. You might have the 3slow or the coveted 22Re motor to get back to specific to your situation.

Folks are better able to help you if they know where you are-could be one of our fine members right down the very street from you will take a lunch break to help you out. They have done it for me, folks are really helpful here.

I want to say it was a fuel injector O ring that was letting just a bit more excess fuel drip after shutdown but get some other opinions before you just go throwing parts at it. I am no mechanic and not pretending to be....
