Is there a diff lock on this axle?
Ok, I found what is said to be a 4.30 rear axle with diff lock no ABS from a 2002 Tacoma. It doesn't look like the other one I had from the '97 and I can't identify the diff lock actuator on it. Can anybody else confirm that there is in fact a diff lock on this by looking at it? It doesn't look that rusty, and if it really does have the diff lock I am going to RI to get it I think. I would love to hear opinions on that. Of the axles shown, it is the one in the middle.

If there is one, from the factory, it would be an E-locker, which would be located on the 3rd member itself, on the drivers side. Which is the one side that I couldn't really see from these pics...
So I don't know yet. Best I can tell is the middle pic, showing the top side of the diff, it does not appear to have the e-locker.
It would have a little electric motor looking gizmo that is part of the 3rd itself, not the housing.
It's possible it could have an aftermarket locker, in which case you probably won't be able to tell without disassembly...

take a picture of the third member. if it has a stock toyota locker it would be an elocker. otherwise if it is a air locker there would be an air fitting on the top. it doesnt look like ether of those so the only other options are mechanical locker, welded, or spool locker. you would have to open it up and take a look inside to check. my bet is that it isnt locked.

It supposedly has the factory elocker. Here is another pick that kind of looks like it might have the wiring connector in the right place. Does that help any? Thanks for the help

why not grab an axle and turn it. if the other side turns opposite it is an open diff. if the other side turns the same and the pinion turns its locked. if you turn one side and nothing else turns you could have a lunchbox in there. i dont know probably doesnt help but i wanted to contribute

I appreciate all the suggestions. The problem is, this axle is 2.5 hours away from me and I asked the salvage yard to send me the pics so I could see whether it was worth the drive or not. It is not in my possession, nor can I check it out without making the drive. It supposedly has the factory elocker. I recently got burned on a '97 axle where the actuator casing was cracked, and although I was able to get a refund, I am hoping to get something of decent quality this time. I have attached the same pics, but I circled what I am wondering is maybe the top of the actuator housing. Someone said it would be on the driver's side, but on the '97 it was on the passenger's side. So whatever that thing is that I circled, it is in the same spot as the actuator on the '97, but it doesn't have the same shape. The bolt pattern there is pretty close to the same though. What is it that I circled in red there? My axle on my truck without the elocker doesn't have that.

The part you have circled in the latest pictures is the Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. It's part of the brake system. In order to really tell if there's an e-locker we'll need to see a pic of the top driver's side of the 3rd member.

If it's a Detroit/Lockrite/auto locker, it will turn both axles the same way as well as the pinion, as you stated.
If he tries to turn one side and nothing else turns, there's something broken....

You would have to hold one side and turn the other. This would take a lot of force because it's really heavy. If you heard a ratcheting sound you have a mechanical locker if,after you put all of your might into it, they both spin the same way it's welded or has a spool. But this is NOT the way to tell if it has a e-locker or a air locker. You would have to know what your looking at or take it apart for that.

Confirmed - just a regular ol' rear end. Now waiting for pics from two other possibilities. I'd be upset about the wasted time and energy, but I guess all in all the salvage yard provided me with the best service they could and were pretty nice and friendly. They are probably a little disappointed about no sale too.
