Dumb newbie question. My dash gages quit working on Sunday. Replace the fuse blows right out. So I am thinking of installing manual gages, oil, temp and charging. My question is will a generic set work and I am assuming I will need metric threaded connections? Can you buy gages with metric connections?

I also need to know where the temp sending unit is on a 88 22RE in a 4runner

Well I tried that. Has short in the wiring that I can't find. Do you have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot?

i have an aftermarket 3 gauge mechanical set in my pickup. the water temp gauge came with its own sensor that i plugged into an extra port on the intake manifold. its right next to one of the vacuum switching valves and the stock temp gauge. the oil pressure gauge is hooked up to a tee that threads into the stock oil pressure gauge location. off the other end of the tee is the stock oil pressure sensor. the tee fitting didn't come with the set but you can find stuff like that at a hardware store usually. my voltmeter gauge is just hooked up to a hot wire and a ground (i think, hooked it up a long time ago). a lot of gauge sets come with amp meters which i don't like as much. i just took that one out and bought the single voltmeter gauge. different brand but same size and it fit in the gauge cluster. the sets are all universal but they usually come with several adapters to fit what you have. like i said earlier a hardware store usually has all those fittings too. just figure out your thread sizes and styles (tapered or not) and then piece together what you need. hope that helps some.
