Gasket material opinions

In your opinion what would make the best seal on a 22re timing cover,Toyota FIPG or the type (paper felt cork etc) that comes with a timing kit.Thanks

If both the block side and timing cover side are both properly prepped with no warpage, then the OEM paper gasket is plenty. I usually hit both surfaces with a 3m aluminum sanding puck to remove any grit. If there is some slight warpage in the timing cover, then a light coating of FIPG on the block side of the gasket is fine. Don't go crazy though.

I have seen people use FIPG sealer only with success, but that is a lot of silicone to be lying down and some could end up in your engine plugging up oil passages. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

normal paper gasket with cleaned surfaces and ultra grey rtv = no leaks.
