Gasket material opinions
In your opinion what would make the best seal on a 22re timing cover,Toyota FIPG or the type (paper felt cork etc) that comes with a timing kit. Thanks

If both the block side and timing cover side are both properly prepped with no warpage, then the OEM paper gasket is plenty. I usually hit both surfaces with a 3m aluminum sanding puck to remove any grit. If there is some slight warpage in the timing cover, then a light coating of FIPG on the block side of the gasket is fine. Don't go crazy though.
I have seen people use FIPG sealer only with success, but that is a lot of silicone to be lying down and some could end up in your engine plugging up oil passages. Not worth the risk in my opinion.
