gas mileage with 265/75/16 tires
im sure the answer is out there somewhere but after 30 minuets of reading, id rather just ask the queston again...
People with such experience: How much average gas mileage are you getting with 265/75/16s? did you recalibrate or gear?
please speak from experience and not theory. I have 265/75/16 and I figured (from past experience with other vehicles going up a tire size) that I would only loose around 1 mpg.. but im getting like 14 in the city and 16 on the highway and i babysit the gas pedal. thanks in advance!

yeah right now im getting like 14 or 15 average.. with synthetic oil (castrol syntec, 10w-30), chevron regular with techron gas... K&N air filter and just recently did injector mixture in gas (pure techron additive). i have blown CV axles but i dont have money to go 4x4 or anywhere far anyways right now.. but im wondering if blown CVs have anything to do with it..

I have 265/75/16 tires on my 3rd gen w/ stock gearing (3.73). Without recalibrating, I'm at about 13-15 mpg mostly city driving. With recalibration based on internet calculators, I'm about 10% better at 15 -17 mpg.
I have 100k miles on my truck and all service has been done. Synthetic everywhere. Only performance-type mods are K&N FIPK and magnaflow muffler. I am also pretty heavy on the gas pedal.

the inner cv boot is completely torn around and the greese is gone. right now if i do calculations based on my non-calibrated, not geared... im getting about 14 or so mpg.. maybe a little more.. so when i get my free AAA re-calibration ill be seeing like 16 city and 18 highway (which is my goal, without re-gearing). im going to do the deckplate, ISR and magnaflow 14" muffler soon too, so maybe those will get me an extra mile per gallon.

Just done a highway trip...just shy of 20 mpg with my 265/75/16's.
I usually get 17 to 18mpg at best no matter how hard I drive in mixed city/hwy use.

thank you very much guys. i was kind of shocked to see how much of a loss resulted from 265/75/16 (atleast on my rig). im going to get a calibration from AAA, change my fuel filter, do the deckplate and isr mods and then see how my gas mileage is.. from theory, i assumed that it should be appropriate to loose like 1 mile per gallon for riding on 265/75/16 instead of 265/70/16 (plus the yak rack), but right now im running a bit shy.

The deckplate will let more air into the intake, more air = more fuel, more fuel = more power. Your mileage won't go up.
The ISR mod will increase the throttle response, it won't have a direct effect on HP or fuel consumption.
If you're running a rack, you can expect a 1-2mpg drop in mileage on the highway. Around town shouldn't be too bad.

I'm a lead foot a bit to at least to get up to speed since I don't dawdle and with my D load range tires I get anywhere from 14-17 but it's more likely to be the 14 lately.

I get anywhere from 16-19 (depending on how much freeway driving I'm doing).
I've also found that I've saved myself a pretty good amount of mileage that hasn't shown on the odometer because of the larger tire size.

My stock 05 highway was 21mpg (4.10 gears, 2.7 vvti motor)
With 285/75/16s I get 19 mpg highway adjusted.
I know I have a completely different motor, truck than you do, but I found that my shift points changed dramatically when I changed tire size. I have a manual so I learned what the truck liked and did not like. The first few weeks my mileage was terrible.
Do you have an automatic?

16-17.5 mpg with 265/75-16,s. '99 3.4 w/5sp. ext. cab. I take my mileage and multiply it by 1.08 that gives me back the 8% I lose with the larger tire size. So on a 200 mile fill-up(odo reading) I really have traveled 216 miles. That being said, why do the larger tires cut down on your mpg? Seems like you would get better mileage.

This is interesting and makes me wonder how much of a difference I should be factoring in with my switch from the 265/70-16 to the 265/75-16. This is on a 99 4Runner with the factory rear locker so I am pretty sure it has the 4:30 gears. Non adjusted I get 17-19, but would be interested in what the adjusted would give me.

When I went from 31x10.50 to 33x10.50, I didn't notice much of a mileage drop.
I was really concerned that my mileage dropped dramatically when it got cold - found out that tire pressure is critcial. Only a few PSI seem to make a HUGE difference! There are some posts on here about how to check to get the right pressure so the tread sits flat on the road.
