could some one explain how regearing works
I've read alot of threads talking about regearing. as far as i can tell in some instances people buy new gears and install them somewhere. in other instances people seem to buy another diff and install it.
I'm just confused. if some one could give me some kind of run down, that would be awesome.
thanks

regearing means you're switching to a new gear ratio. usually for different tire size.
one can purchase a "built" diff. from an off road company like Marlin or TG. it could possibly even include a locker, already installed.
you can buy just a new set of gears (ring and Pinion) and install them yourself.
or an also popular thing to do for pickup owners is swap in gears out of a "big tire package" 4runner. (like mine). these 4runners came stock with 4.88's whereas most pickups came with 4.56's or 4.10. sometimes you hear of trucks with 4.30's or 4.11's.
i don't know what truck you have so i don't know what else to say......there is much wisdom and you should do some searching.
hope i helped you out. welcome to YT!!
