carb problem n e mechanics here please help?
hey thanks 4 looking i bought 85 yota. its been bored over and has mild cam, demon carb. when it gets 2 about 2 grand it flat out just loses power. from about 2-3 grand. i paid a local mechanic 400 bucks to fix it. he cleaned and put different jets in it. now it falls out at 2-2,400 better but not fixed yet? he says he cant fix it n e more he had it for 2 months.so the problem is that it loses power at 2, threw 2,400 rpm if i hold it between them i can litterally kill the truck. im no carb guy so please help if u no this problem or have had this problem please chime in. thanks all

How many CFM*** is the carb? 550? 650? 950?
You might wanna try smaller jets, unless you can confirm thats what the mechanic did...
And yeah, Firefighters post makes perfect sense to...
Are you running the stock FP***?

try putting a stock cam back in. i always use weber 32\36 carbs, never had a problem. try another distributer. the demon carb, and hot cam, should be trashed. get a weber 32\36,and a stock cam.try a recurved distributer, fron l.c. engineering. these trucks, are designed pretty well,as they are, except for carbs. i have an 84,stock cam/weber/recurved dis. no problem. u,inherited someones problem. sorry . mdoyleufo@gmail.com

fp = Fuel Pump...
How could you put a Demon carb on your truck and not know what CFM it is?
I have a feeling you're over fueling... And under supplying...
Call up a Demon supplier and find out what the fuel pressure requirements are for that carb...
And now that you talk about smelling unburned fuel you make me think of a coil...
You can't just slap carbs on engines... There's a bit more to it than that...
You prolly need a high output fuel pump. At the very least...

Most Demon carbs I know of are insane CFM carbs for insane cubic inch V8 drag motors...
Please explain to me how you even got the thing on. Did you use a Demon to Holley to Toyota intake adapter?

Yeah you need to go ahead and get the model number of the carb an see what the cfm is on it, but if you start it up can you immediately rev it over 2500rpm or does it always die out at the same point every time at 2500rpm?

Demon carburetor for sale!!!
I'd sell it and go get me a stock 22R carb, or with the proceeds from the Demon get a Weber...
The closer you stay to stock, the less problems you'll ever have
PS, Does it have a 20R head on it?

well you could probably figure it out on the internet if you got the model number off the carb, that thing does look really big for the motor, the most that motor should ever need is a 2 barrel carb probably around 300cfms at the most, that 4 barrel you have there is probably pushing around 5 to 600cfm somewhere. What happened to your old carb? Was there anything wrong with it?

well i guess i should have said this it is set up for the 2 barrel only the other 2 barrels are not hooked up. well i bought the truck like this it did come with the stock one but lucky me it sold on ebayi guess that was a bad idea now.so does it help that its not actually 4 barrels?

Wait...
Its a 4 barrel carb with only 2 barrels working?
Lol...
Why don't you just go scour the junkyard for a stock carb, and get that aftermarket pos off your intake.
The aisin carbs are amazing as-is..

Aisin carb from a junkyard, and cap off vacuum. WAAAAAYYYYY too much fuel for that rig. I will be putting up a new thread on de-smogging a carbed 22-R in a few days, that may be a good resource. Also, here's more info:
