can junkyard springs=lift?
I am about to begin a build, a mid 80's jalopy ( My uncle and i have a collection of 82-87 4x2 and 4x4 toyota pickups from wich we pull parts). I have a strait axle to add to my 86 4x4, and the springs look questionable ( pretty flat). I was just wondering if the SAS would come out higher and simpler if I got some leafs off a chevy,dodge,nissian or masarati or what would be a good choice?
It is a WORK TRUCK, not a toy! I work construction, and need to get my tools to the freshly dozered, rained on, and fork truck rutted sites. (This is not to say that it wont ever see a trail though!!!). I run a steel flat bed (6') that is HEAVY! The rear sagged pretty good with stock springs. I would like to end up about 3-6 inches above stock ( Tall but not towering). As I have to replace All the springs and am not afraid to weld ( I have Columbia gas certified beer drink'n buddy) ...
Are there any sugestions as to what year, make, and modle I should ask the scrap yard to cut the shakles off of to put me ,say, 4" above the stock 86 staight axle trucks?
How would that affect the stearing arm?
Thanks;
Pete

Chevy leafs in the back, 63" long, lots of flex. 2wd chevy springs are 3 leaf and 4wd chevy are 4 leaf. Have to weld on new perches and get longer shackles. You can play with the number of leafs in the packs and get it custom for your lift.
For the front, 44044 jeep wagoneer leafs work.
