I was looking at treadwright.com and noticed that have bfg a/t's retread's of course for $65.00 -31x10.5x15 . looks like they also have the mtr pattern and another new one. I'm going to order my tires next week from there.

seems good but I wouldn't go for it

I've been a little weary of retreads ever since one exploded on my uncles truck when I was driving. Took out most of the bed side and damn near took out another car (fish-tailed into oncoming traffic)

they are just going on a work truck . the job site can be very hard on tires, and I don't want to spend a fortune on tires that are just going to get nails stuck in them.

I have heard good things about them, i still wouldn't go for it though. Maybe only for my spare, ashame they don't come in 33x12.50.

semi's have been using retreads for years because of the high cost of tires. it saves so much money by retreading because the casings have so much material in them they don't really wear out.

Semis also have 17 other tires on the road when one comes apart vs 3 on a Toyota.

Treadwright/HiTech Retreading has been around for 10+ years, and has a pretty huge following in the offroad community. I am running a 285/75/16 set of their DMud pattern, and have not had any issues.

Google HiTech Retreads and Treadwright and read the testimonials. You will find two groups of people:

A) The people who have NOT run these retreads. Their posts will consist of "Yeah, I wouldn't trust those" and "My friend knew someone who got a retread from some unknown source and it came apart."

B) The people who have. 99% of their posts will say "I'm on my third set of Hitechs, and I love them. Never had an issue."

I was only able to find one account of someone who had a Hitech/Treadwright retread fail on them - one guy had the lip of the tread start "coming up". As in the integrity of the tread was not compromised at all. He called Hitech, they sent him 4 new tires, he shipped the old one back on their dime, and they got back with him later to say that the problem was with a new rubber manufacturer they had been using, which they immediately fixed. That was all I could find.

There have been so many cheap crappy retreads used in the past (tread just glued on to the carcass, crappy curing), that good retreads get a bad name. They completely revulcanize the tread to the carcass, like a new tire.

I love my treadwrights. Great bang for the buck.
