95 22re fuel system pressure question

I am attempting to put a new head gasket on my truck, I don't know how to do anything other than a tune up/oil change etc...
The truck does not start so I cannot release the fuel system pressure the way my haynes says. Can I do this by loosening the fuel filter line on the engine side of the fuel filter? I need to remove the intake manifold and exhaust manifold so the book says I need to do this. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks
