86 4runner-growling sound
Hellow everyone i have an 86 4 runner ive had it for about a year and a half im going to start off with the list of stuff i have replaced in it then tell u the issue im having
in the year ive owned it i have put a new motor all the bolt ons new diffs front and rear new ujoints whole front end ball joints ect... new wheels bearings all the way around with seals of course and the list does go on but the issue im having is that about 30 to 40 mph im having what seems like a "growl" and im not 100 percent on what it is ive tighten the flange and the rear of the t-case still it only made it worse i think not sure so im out of money and i just need help im trying to bring this old beast back to life and shes fighting me tooth and nail.
so does anyone have any more sugetions for me?

You say you tightened the flang on the transfer case and it made it worse??? Possible bearing in t-case bad?? Put the back of the truck on jack stands and put it in gear, crawl under it and see if you can find where the sound is coming from using a screwdriver and putting it to your ear maybe...dont know though...

When my truck growled, it was the tranny. That is interesting that tightening the t-case flange made it worse...But I wouldn't expect a "growling" noise to be caused by a loose flange nut. I feel like they usually rattle. Growling is probably bearings in the tranny or t-case, but obviously we can't say for sure over the internet.

well i just took it in to the tranz shop it all checked out fine....
could it be mabey the rear axel its self because when i replaced the rear diff its was pretty much mangled only had about a half a tbs of oil in it?

How did the axle shafts look when you pulled them? Aside from the actual differential itself, nothing much relies on the oil, right? And he swapped differentials.
